Life & death ...
I don’t know why, but I am deeply compelled to share my thoughts today on the subject of death. It is not the most pleasant or happiest subject to open, but it’s been a foremost thought in my mind recently.
Having touched on demises of friends’ kin & colleagues … I’ve also been watching A walk to remember & read Tuesdays with Morrie.
Some questions (or rather, reminders) …
Do you know when you will die?
Are you prepared to die?
Are you prepared to leave it all behind?
Have you achieved all that you could right here, right now?
Have you forgiven & have you been forgiven?
And those are questions for our death … but even more … we don’t know when the person next to us will go … for death does not discriminate … it knows neither age, race, wealth or gender …
Are you prepared to let them go?
Have you given your best to them?
Have you been forgiven by them?
Have you said all that’s needed to be said?
Have you done all that’s needed to be done?
If not, why?
In my experience, most people cringe when this subject is brought up. Let us focus on now & the living, say they …
And living the moment is indeed a precious virtue, but the question as ever is … are we living the present to the best we can?
Having been reminded of how fragile life is & how near death flirts near us unknowingly each day, let’s not be bogged by the grim reaper … but take his reminder to cherish life & give the best we can … as if today’s the last day … for it could be.
